New Tampa Players: Arts for All Ages, All Experience Levels, and All Abilities
Over the past 18 years, New Tampa Players has produced over 50 large scale productions for the Tampa Bay community. In 2019, NTP became the first replication site for Penguin Project in Florida. Penguin Project is a theater program for children and young adults with special needs. In March, we were able to do three amazing performances of Peter Pan Jr with our 27 young artists and 37 peer mentors before the COVID Pandemic took hold of our area. Over 900 people came to the production to support our Penguins in the audience.
March was a big month for New Tampa Players. We also signed the lease on our new black box rehearsal and theatre space in the University Square Mall. Once the COVID pandemic is over, we will be able to share the performing arts with all of the Uptown community.
The COVID pandemic has had a large effect on the arts industry in Tampa Bay. Performing arts is a shared experience, which makes it particularly vulnerable. New Tampa Players is no different. Having a home is a blessing, but it has added significantly to our expenses in a time where we cannot produce shows for income.
As the COVID pandemic restrictions lift in the coming months, New Tampa Players is looking forward to bringing the Tampa Bay community the shared theater experiences.
