Ways to Help Now
BONITA SPRINGS -- Chris Jeffray had it all planned. His father Russ, now in his fourth year as a cancer survivor, would join his mother Karen and fly down from New Jersey for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Estero/Bonita Springs on April 4 at Bonita Springs High School. He also had friends flying in from Massachusetts and California. The coronavirus changed all of that. In the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, the American Cancer Society suspended all in-person events through mid May, but it didn’t suspend Chris’ desire to help raise funds for the American Cancer Society. So now he’s inviting the world to fly down and join him -- virtually.(Read more)https://www.facebook.com/notes/american-cancer-society-florida/relay-for-life-bonita-springsestero-bounces-back-with-virtual-5k-event/2648630495356286/

We need support/funding to enhance our remote learning platform! We want to add a Learning Management System to Microsoft Teams. Help us with Preparedness, OnBoarding, and Staying Engaged. As the pandemic forced students to remote learning, our students are disproportionately impacted. Many are from low income HH’s likely to suffer most from increased unemployment and economic uncertainty. Parents are unprepared to “homeschool” – lower education, less time (high % of “essential workers”). Our students were already lagging academically.

The core of our award-winning online safety program is presented in a classroom or group setting. With schools and businesses closed we are unable to provide our traditional programs. We are working now on developing a digital program that can be done at home. We are offering a reformatted online version of the Garfield cartoons to families for FREE along with weekly tips and activities for the children. Our plan is to have a complete digital program available by the end of May but could use financial and technical help to make this possible. We would also like to convert the program to a game based app.

With many people at home now or working from their homes or families with children home from school, it would be a perfect way to spend your time and redirect your attention away from what is scary and concerning to all of us. It would be a wonderful learning skill for your children as well who may be our future rescuers and at the same time knowing how good it feels to have saved a life! We supply everything you will need and you supply the love and care. The pet foster parent provides basic care for the Beagles such as shelter, food, and water. The effects of COVID-19 continues to impact The FHM, resulting in loss of revenue, cancellation of events/tours, etc. Admissions alone comprise 12% of our budget. COVID-19, however, has not stopped our ability to offer educational outreach to school districts in Tampa Bay and around the state. Although we are closed, we continue to work with schools who are transitioning to virtual classrooms. We are adapting our outreach to conform to their needs to teach Holocaust education as part of public school instruction (grades K-12) per State mandate.A special section has been set up on our website and we have a robust social media campaign to complement our efforts to reach those who might need our resources outside the Tampa Bay Area. All of these resources and tools are offered free of charge. https://www.flholocaustmuseum.org/learn/virtual-resources/
