BONITA SPRINGS -- Chris Jeffray had it all planned.
His father Russ, now in his fourth year as a cancer survivor, would join his mother Karen and fly down from New Jersey for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Estero/Bonita Springs on April 4 at Bonita Springs High School. He also had friends flying in from Massachusetts and California.
The coronavirus changed all of that. In the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, the American Cancer Society suspended all in-person events through mid May, but it didn’t suspend Chris’ desire to help raise funds for the American Cancer Society.
So now he’s inviting the world to fly down and join him -- virtually.(Read more)https://www.facebook.com/notes/american-cancer-society-florida/relay-for-life-bonita-springsestero-bounces-back-with-virtual-5k-event/2648630495356286/

The “Adopt a House” program is for those organizations that are familiar with or are equipped for house maintenance and repairs. The “Adopt a Home” program addresses the personal side of our homes. Adopting a home puts an organization in direct contact with the residents. Our goal is to develop a long-term, personal relationship with your organization and our residents. Each house has specific needs for the holiday season, summer vacations, birthdays and special events.

ECHO is in desperate need of volunteers who will hep us serve in the month of August. Our student volunteers will be heading back to school and our normal standby retirees are still understandably a bit hesitant to come back to the front lines. We could really use your help any day of the week Monday - Friday from 9-1:30.Both locations are in need.
We need support/funding to enhance our remote learning platform! We want to add a Learning Management System to Microsoft Teams. Help us with Preparedness, OnBoarding, and Staying Engaged. As the pandemic forced students to remote learning, our students are disproportionately impacted. Many are from low income HH’s likely to suffer most from increased unemployment and economic uncertainty. Parents are unprepared to “homeschool” – lower education, less time (high % of “essential workers”). Our students were already lagging academically.

One-on-one mentoring makes SRN unique. When a student joins our program, he or she is paired with a mentor who is carefully selected to help that student succeed, based on his or her personality and needs. The mentor teaches the student social, emotional and life skills. The mentors act as a trusting confidante, building relationships that last a lifetime. For the first time in their lives, these students feel stable. The results are nothing short of spectacular. Not only do the students obtain the skills needed to succeed and end the cycle of homelessness, but they also gain a lifelong relationship with someone who truly care about them.
We appreciate the hard work and dedication of our volunteers. Giving back to the community provides each volunteer with a sense of pride, accomplishment, and fulfillment of doing good within their community. Volunteers may help collect, organize, and/or distribute goods or services to those in need of the Angel Foundation’s services. Volunteers may also help organize and provide support during our annual events. We are also excited to have more Corporate Angels, offering their service or trade to help those in their community.
We are dedicated to addressing the needs of the residents, families, and businesses in this community. Many families are challenged with finding resources to assist in these unprecedented times. Combining case management, education, job training, parenting education, and ongoing support, STEPS provides wrap-around services to assist families in stabilization. This funding will serve 4 University Area families in our STEPS program, changing the lives of an estimated 14 individuals over a one year period.
