Brushing and preparing the horse and riding equipment (tack) for a rider, and/or taking off tack and caring for the horse after a ride is completed.  Special training for this task is also provided.

Walking beside a rider who is mounted, helping to ensure his or her safety and security while in the saddle.  Sidewalkers are specially trained to avoid injury in the event of a fall or emergency dismount.  Generally, sidewalkers are not asked to walk in excess of two 50-minute sessions per morning and are given breaks…

Guiding a specially trained horse before, during and after a rider is mounted, as directed by the riding instructor.  Volunteers undergo training to ensure their comfort and confidence in horse handling and leading prior to being assigned this duty.

Volunteers, ages 14 and up, are always welcome at A Kids Place and there are numerous ways you can be a part of what we do. While hands-on time with the children is extremely limited, we offer other opportunities to get involved such as special events, campus clean-ups, and on-site summer camp.
