Wheelchairs 4 Kids Provides Equipment At No Charge To Families
Wheelchairs 4 Kids is dedicated to improving the lives of children with physical disabilities by providing wheelchairs, home and vehicle modifications as well as other assistive equipment at no charge to the families. We also plan inclusion events for the children we serve. Each year we have a private Christmas Party with Winter, the Dolphin where the kids get to meet her up close and personal. Of course Santa makes a visit as well! We also go to MLB games, Bucs training camp, WWE events, and even indoor sky-diving, zip-lining, sled hockey and water-skiing using adaptive equipment.
Many children faced with living with physical disabilities are in wheelchairs that are too small, in disrepair, or do not fit the needs of the child. Children outgrow their wheelchairs before government or insurance programs will allow for a replacement which is generally every five years. Not only is it unsafe for a child to be in a chair that is inadequate for their needs, but it can impact their health in numerous ways including scoliosis, respiratory problems and pressure sores. In addition, families are faced with trying to care for their special needs children in homes that have not been modified to meet their specific circumstances. For instance, we have had cases involving parents who were “showering” their children in the back yard with hoses because they could no longer safely get their children in and out of the tub. We solve that problem by removing the tubs and replacing them with roll-in showers.
While there are many organizations that provide assistance for kids in other countries, there are not many organizations that provide customized chairs for kids here in the US. Most of the kids we serve need trunk support, head support and positioning. We also build ramps, widen doors and install roll-in showers as well as modify vehicles allowing our kids to be transported in their family vehicles.

The COVID 19 crisis has impacted us greatly. Our donations are down by 70% over the same time period as last year. We had to cancel our Jail and Bail fundraiser and Heroes Luncheon. 2 regular grantors have diverted funds to COVID 19 causes, which we completely understand and respect. However, we have 43 applications in-house and are not in a position to help them all without more funding. We expect the need to increase as parents are losing their jobs. We need help!
